Here’s your community calendar for Tuesday, July 4, Independence Day, underwritten by the Mount Sopris Rotary Club, meeting every Thursday at noon at Mi Casita in Carbondale. Rotary: Service above self. Click the headline for local festivity listings.

  • Glenwood Springs begins festivities this morning with a Firecracker 5k Race at Two Rivers Park.

  • Aspen hosts America’s Birthday Carnival from 10 to 2 in Paepke Park with a parade down Main Street at 11.

  • Boogie in Bonedale begins at 10:30 with a kid’s parade down Carbondale’s Main St. followed by a carnival in Sopris Park and games at the pool.

  • The Independence Day concerts at Two Rivers Park begin at 5 with fireworks at dark.

  • The Aspen Noise singing group meets at the Aspen Chapel at 5:30.

  • The Leonard Curry Trio performs poolside at the Glenwood Hot Springs Pool at 6.

  • The Apple Tree Community near New Castle celebrates at 6:30.

  • Snowmass’s 4th of July community celebration takes place at base village from 7:30 to 9:30 with DJ Berkel Beats.

  • Thievery Corporation performs at Belly Up Aspen at 9:30.

Looking ahead…

  • On First Friday July 7th, join KDNK between 3 and 7pm for an open house and artist reception featuring local landscapes from Colorfulcrow Photography, aka Ape on the Dink, host of the Wild Rumpus on Friday mornings.

  • Tune in Sunday July 9th from 4 to 7pm for another live broadcast from the Summer Music Series in Sopris Park. This month Let them Roar and Dangermuffin perform live in the park, presented by the Town of Carbondale and Steve's Guitars.

Raleigh Burleigh was raised in the historic floodplanes of Satank. The Carbondale Rotary Club sponsored him as a youth ambassador to Chile the year before his graduation from Roaring Fork High School. He studied International Affairs and Journalism at the University of Colorado, Boulder then applied those studies traveling throughout South America the following year. Returning to Carbondale thereafter, Raleigh acquired an internship with KDNK News which led to the opportunity to serve as News Director from 2017 to 2019. After another trip to South America in early 2019, Raleigh Burleigh drew deeper into the confluence as Program Director at KDNK. Raleigh now serves on KDNK's board of directors and as editor of Carbondale's weekly newspaper, The Sopris Sun.
