Community Calendar for October 10th

Here’s your community calendar for Indigenous People’s Day, Monday, October 10th, underwritten by the Mount Sopris Rotary Club, meeting every Thursday at noon at Mi Casita in Carbondale. Rotary, service above self.

  • From 3:30 to 5 at the Basalt Library, the public is welcome to attend a free online legal clinic offered by volunteer attorneys for folks without access to an attorney for civil matters. Volunteer attorneys will answer questions, help fill out forms, and explain the process and procedure for legal issues in the areas of family law, civil litigation, property law, probate law, collections, appeals, landlord-tenant law, veteran’s benefits, and civil protection orders.

  • Basalt Library’s Finance Committee meets at 5:15.

  • At 5:30, the KDNK Board of Directors will hold its next meeting here at our offices at 76 S. 2nd street in Carbondale. The meeting is open to the public. An agenda is posted at the KDNK office and on our website.

  • The Limelight Hotel in Aspen hosts the latest installment of the Aspen U Speaker Series at 5:30, in collaboration with the Colorado Fiscal Institute. The event is called “Beyond Trump and Clinton: The skinny on the nine state ballot measures.” Carol Hedges, executive director of the Colorado Fiscal Institute, will help answer the question: Why does Colorado make cuts to important state services as the economy shrinks, but in times of growth can’t use the added tax revenue to fund those same services?

  • The Launchpad at Carbondale Arts features ballet for teens and adults at all levels starting at 6.

  • At 10pm Belly Up Aspen has the Steepwater Band playing hard rock, blues and psychedelia.

Looking ahead…

  • Carbondale has three candidates for mayor to choose from this election, current mayor pro tem Dan Richardson, current trustee Katrina Byars and past trustee Ed Cortes. On October 20th, KDNK will broadcast live from a forum we’re co-hosting along with The Sopris Sun and the Carbondale Chamber of Commerce at the Third Street Center from 5:30 to 7.

  • And Singer-songwriter Richard Shindell plays Steve’s Guitars October 20th. On our website, KDNK.org, you can watch him perform a song live as part of NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts.
