Become a DJ or public affairs host

DJs are the heart and soul of KDNK, and all are local volunteers. KDNK offers an eclectic mix of rock, folk, blues, jazz, bluegrass, reggae, funk, soul, country western, world, metal, electronic, hip-hop, and beyond! All our volunteer DJs host a two hour program. Many present very specific music, but all are encouraged to explore new music from independent and emerging artists and delve into the KDNK library of old favorites that run the gamut of genres.

KDNK also airs a rotation of mostly monthly half-hour volunteer-created public affairs programs. Do you have a creative idea for a show or a topic you believe needs to be covered on local media? Hosting a public affairs program on KDNK may be the answer.

The first step to becoming a DJ or host is to sign up for one of our monthly DJ trainings. This is where we show you around the station, help you become a member if you are not one already, provide a first look at the on-air studio and get you going on the road to becoming another well-trained and expressive KDNK announcer. KDNK is a place for locals to have a voice, to learn and grow and to serve the community. DJ trainings are usually held the third Thursday of the month. Contact Music Director Cody Lee at cody@kdnk.org for more information.

Assist at KDNK Events

KDNK hosts many fundraising events throughout the year. Whether it’s the Labor of Love Auction, Mr. Carbondale/Roaring Fork, Halloween Party, Women’s Arm Wrestling, or other festivities, we are always in need of volunteer assistance. Click on the links below to see the available volunteer shifts. Contact Megan at megan@kdnk.org or call 963-0139 to sign up.

Membership Drives

Volunteer help is a must during our busy on-air membership drives. KDNK holds two drives every year, one in March and one in September. We need people to volunteer to answer phone calls and help with the mailings a few weeks prior to the drives. To volunteer, call 970-963-0139 or contact Megan at megan@kdnk.org

Membership Drive Phone Operators:
KDNK conducts two membership drives annually, which occur in March and September. During these drives, volunteers are needed for a variety of shifts between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM.

Mailing Projects:
KDNK does approximately four large mailings annually and volunteers are needed to assist with sorting, stuffing and sealing envelopes to prepare them for mailing. Volunteers may offer as many hours as they are available. We generally send out mailings at the end of January, July, August and October.

Music Department Opportunities

The Music Department needs help with the following:

-Organizing the library, re-alphabetizing and shelving the ever-expanding flow of music into the library.
-Assist the Music Director by entering music into the digital library (DAD)
-Help the Music Department purge and deaccesion music for the annual record sale

Contact Cody Lee, Music Director, cody@kdnk.org or call 963-0139 for full details on these opportunities.

Community Advisory Board

The Board of Directors of KDNK Community Access Radio has established a Community Advisory Board (CAB) in order to receive regular feedback from the community and to comply with certain requirements for stations that receive federal funding through the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

The purpose of the CAB is to review the programming goals established by the station, the services to the communities provided by the station, and the significant policy decisions rendered by the station. The CAB may also be delegated additional responsibilities as determined by the Board of Directors of KDNK.

This board meets at least once per year. To attend or serve on the board contact KDNK at 970 963-0139 or e-mail board@kdnk.org.

Other Board Committees

Beyond the Community Advisory Board, the KDNK Board of Director establishes committees at its discretion to complete advisory work that it has deemed necessary to better fulfill the station's mission. The current committees that particularly would welcome your help include first and foremost the Events Committee, as well as the Tech Committee, Finance Committee, and Strategic Planning Committee.

Weeding, Gardening, and Property Care

There's always something that needs doing here at KDNK. Weeding, gardening, building and landscape beautification, cleaning, and shed organizing are some of the ongoing projects that always welcome help. Contact us and let us know of your tactile skills.
