Lisa Singer pays another visit to Express Yourself to talk about her new work, featured in the Valley Visual Art Show and another group show at the Red Brick Center for the Arts in Aspen. 

Brandon McDuffey, who wrote, directed and edited a new short film, along with his Carbondale childhood friend Ian Morrison, the cinematographer on the project, about Silverline Valentine, a project that features the efforts of many young locals.

With a questing artistic ethic, and a very involved process for making art using found materials you and I would call trash, Benjamin Timpson is a committed artist who can't stop making objects. Benjamin is having a moment right now, with a solo show in Glenwood Springs at CMC's ArtShare Gallery, and pieces in three separate group shows at the Launchpad in Carbondale, CMC in Aspen, and the Red Brick Arts Center in Aspen.

We hear all about the first Salon of the New Year from four participants, the Rassle the Castle race in Redstone and the 34th annual National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, Nevada.

The curator of the Salon series Alya Howe is joined by trumpeter Tim Fox, dancer Io, and USA Tango Champion Sean Ericson to describe the year's first Salon at the Launchpad.

The Drunken Hearts stopped by Express Yourself before their Belly Up gig. And artist Chris Hassig about his new show at the Launchpad, The Line of Totality.

Carbondale native and artist Chris Hassig talks about his new show at the Launchpad and about his working process. The piece below, Lost Coast, is one of the pieces that sold. The show will hang until November 8.

Peter Gilbert of Dance Initiative about this year's Spectrum Dance Festival. Susan Wrubel, new ED of AspenFilm, about this year's FilmFest. Ivo Marloh, director of All the Wild Horses, one of this year's featured films. And musical interludes from Beppe Gambetta, Conor Oberst and the North Mississippi Allstars.

Peter Gilbert has done more than most to elevate dance in the lower Roaring Fork Valley to a place of greater visibility. Peter's organization, Dance Initiative, brings the sixth Spectrum Dance Festival to the Launchpad in Carbondale this weekend, and here he describes this year's gathering.

El Colectivo, a local Latino arts group, will stage a reading of Draw Me a Lamb by Juarez playwright Karmina Fanjul at the Launchpad on Saturday, August 12 at 7pm as a benefit for Ms. Fanjul's children's theater group in Juarez. KDNK's Alejandra Rico spoke with Carlos Herrera in the studio, and Karmina Fanjul from Juarez. You'll also find a partial transcription of the chat in the Sopris Sun, here.
