KDNK's Community Calendar is underwritten by the Mt. Sopris Rotary Club, meeting Thursdays at noon at Mi Casita. Rotary: Service Above Self.

  • Smokin’ Joe and Zoe play Venga Venga in Snowmass Village at 3.
  • Americana group Moonshine Mountain plays two gigs at Slow Groovin’ Snowmass today, from 3 to 6 and from 9:30 to midnight.

  • From 5 to 7, Aspen Hope Center hosts an Open House to show off new digs inside the Mid Valley Health Institute in Basalt.

  • Basalt Library features bilingual book club from 5 to 6 to discuss "The Help" by Kathryn Stockett.

  • The documentary Almost Sunrise screens at 5:30 also at Basalt Library. The film features two retired soldiers battling temptations of suicide who walk across America to confront their demons.

  • The Davi Nikent Center for Human Flourishing hosts the weekly Community Potluck for Plant-Based Whole Foodies and Wannabes from 6:30 to 8 at Third Street Center.

  • Carbondale Arts hosts Drop-in Figure Drawing every Monday night from 6:30 to 9:30 in the CCAH Classroom at the Third Street Center. Non-taught, model figure drawing sessions are facilitated by Philip Hone Williams with a live model. More info at 456-2865.

  • True Nature Healing Arts hosts Monday Night Meditation from 7 to 8:30 pm. Beginning and experienced students can get instruction in the Buddhist practice of Vipassana, or Insight Meditation, serving as an introduction to the practices of awareness and compassion.

  • And the Wheeler Opera House screens the Banff Mountain Film Festival at 7.

Looking ahead...

  • Ghanian-American novelist Yaa Gyasi speaks at Winter Words Tuesday. The 26-year-old will be interviewed about her breakout novel Homegoing at Paepcke Auditorium on the Aspen Institute campus. Doors open at 5:30, with the event at 6 and a book signing to follow.

  • Revelers of all ages are invited to the 35th consecutive year of Mardi Gras celebrations in Snowmass Tuesday, themed Creole for the Soul. Snowmass Village will feature a Mardi Gras bead toss, parade and fireworks plus this year there is a new on-mountain party at Elk Camp Restaurant with a Mardi Gras menu, live music, and ski parade.
