  • KDNK hosts Elephant Revival live in studio at 1pm today as part of the membership drive.

  • Smokin Joe and Zoe play The Nest at Viceroy Snowmass Hotel at 3:30.

  • Damian Smith and Dennis Jung play the Red Onion in Aspen at 4.

  • State Rep. Millie Hamner meets with constituents at Aspen Square Hotel from 4 to 6.

  • At 6, Rifle Animal Shelter presents the 3rd annual “Hoot at the Ute” an evening of local music at the newly refurbished Ute Theatre in Rifle. Bands include Melissa and Jake Statler, Oran Mor, the Porch Pickers, and Feeding Giants. Donations are suggested.

  • Symphony in the Valley presents “The Swing” at Glenwood Rec Center at 6:30.

  • Heather Lewis and Steve Cole play Heather’s in Basalt at 7.

  • Glenwood Springs High School presents The Addams Family: A New Musical Comedy at 7.

  • Glenwood Springs Contra Dance with live music from Wooden Nickel String Band happens at the Glenwood Masonic Lodge with a lesson at 7 and dancing from 7:30 to 10. Beginners welcome, no partner necessary.

  • Jazz Aspen Snowmass presents performances from Haile Loren at 7 and 9:15.

  • Elephant Revival perform at Wheeler Opera House at 7:30 with Bonfire Dub and Dead Horses opening the show.

  • Thunder River Theatre Company brings Shakespeare’s final play The Tempest back to the stage at 7:30.

  • Josefina Mendez plays Brazilian jazz at The Little Nell in Aspen at 7:30.

  • Pitkin County Library screens the Oscar-nominated documentary Tanna at 7:30.

  • Smokin Joe and Zoe play a second gig at the St. Regis in Aspen at 9.

  • Belly Up Aspen hosts the band Dead Floyd with doors opening at 9.

  • And let’s be honest, the big event of the weekend is KDNK’s fundraiser tonight! Ladies Arm Wrestling is back at Phat Thai, starting at 9. There are still wrestling spots available, just show up. The winner gets a bottle of craft spirits from Marble Distilling and a pair of passes for Copper Mountain. Plus we will be giving a True Nature yoga punch pass for the best costume.

Gavin became one of the youngest station managers in public radio on February 1, 2017. He is a writer and producer with a passion for community media. Prior to starting at KDNK as news director in 2016, Gavin worked for national radio programs Alternative Radio with David Barsamian and Nonprofit Radio with Tony Martignetti along with local stations KGNU Boulder, KYRS Spokane, KRBX Boise, KAOS Olympia, and Air America Radio affiliate KPTK Seattle. His nonprofit management experience includes Open Media Foundation, where he led a government transparency team, and Common Frequency, where his policy advocacy supported dozens of noncommercial radio startups. Boulder Weekly, Raw Story, Austin American-Statesman, Boise Weekly, and The Sopris Sun have published his reporting. His TV credits include directing teams at Colorado Channel, crewing for Democracy Now!, and hosting on Free Speech TV. He graduated from the Evergreen State College in 2008 with a BA in media production and community organizing.
