  • As a federal appeals court heard arguments about the merits of the EPA's Clean Power Plan yesterday, recent data backs the science behind the new rules designed to reduce carbon emissions. Eric Galatas reports.
  • Several hundred Cashmere goats are browsing the Rio Grande Trail this month as part of RFTA’s plan to stop using toxic herbicides to control weeds along the railroad corridor. KDNK's Amy Hadden Marsh caught up with the herd along the Catherine Store Road.
  • Police activity in Carbondale and Aspen was slow between September 15th and the 22nd. Here’s Amy Hadden Marsh with our latest Eye on Crime.
  • The public comment period on the Bureau of Land Management’s plan to protect the Gunnison sage grouse has been extended until January. The BLM will hold three meetings during October to talk about the plan. The Gunnison sage grouse is listed as a threatened species by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. About 4,000 live in the Gunnison Basin and another thousand are scattered across western Colorado and eastern Utah. The BLM manages much of the bird’s habitat and wants to amend its resource management plans. Conservation groups have criticized the proposal as doing too little to protect the bird. More information at blm.gov. Just search for Gunnison Sage Grouse.
  • English in Action hosts its annual Fiesta de Tamales this Saturday October 1st from 5 to 8 pm at Eagle Crest Nursery in El Jebel. The event brings together hundreds of community members for a celebration of diverse cultures that exist side by side in the Roaring Fork Valley. The fundraiser supports English in Action’s mission to help adults learn English, buidling cross-cultural bridges to promote a more cohesive community. Admission includes a homemade tamale and pupusa dinner, with entertainment by Aspen Santa Fe Ballet Folklorico and local salsa dancers, a DJ, pinatas for the kids and multiple drawings for prizes.
