Smoke may be visible from Aspen, Highway 82 and Maroon Highlands Bowl today from the Maroon Fire, about a mile northwest of Highlands Bowl. Call the Aspen Sopris Ranger Station for more info but please do not call 911 about the smoke from this fire.

Aspen City Council holds a work session tonight concerning the city’s conditional water rights for Castle Creek and Maroon Creek. Local environmental groups and more than 50 area residents have filed comments, asking the city to abandon its right to dam each creek, which would flood large areas of the Maroon Bells Snowmass Wilderness area.

Colorado Wild Public Lands, the Roaring Fork Conservancy and Wilderness Workshop invite you to attend a candidate forum on public lands in Carbondale at the Third Street Center Thursday. The event starts at 5:45 with a reception. Candidates will speak from 6:30 to 8. Confirmed speakers include Gail Schwartz, running for the US Congress against incumbent Scott Tipton; Emily Tracy, Diane Mitsch Bush and Millie Hamner, who are running for the Colorado General Assembly; plus Garfield, Pitkin, and Eagle County commissioner candidates.

The natural gas boom in Garfield County has gone bust and that means the county budget will be significantly smaller next year. KDNK's Amy Hadden Marsh has more.
