Local Newscast for October 24th

Gavin Dahl

KDNK's Local Newscast airs weekday mornings at 6:41 and 7:41 during Morning Edition.

On Thursday, KDNK Community Access Radio, the Carbondale Chamber of Commerce and The Sopris Sun hosted a mayoral candidates forum featuring current town trustee Katrina Byars, former trustee Ed Cortes and current mayor pro tem Dan Richardson. Moderator Jim Green, director of Community Education at Colorado Mountain College asked all three candidates a series of questions in front of a few dozen community members gathered in the Calloway Room at the Third Street Center. News Director Gavin Dahl has more. If you haven’t registered to vote, it’s not too late. If you get registered by October 31st, Halloween, you can still receive a ballot in the mail. And in Colorado you can actually register to vote all the way up until election day. Visit GoVoteColorado.com to get started.

Forty years ago, President Gerald Ford signed legislation that changed the way the feds oversee millions of acres of land, requiring for the first time that they be managed with conservation in mind. Eric Galatas filed this report on Friday.

Highway 133 between the McClure Pass summit and Paonia Reservoir opened in both directions Friday after a massive rockslide dumped over 100 tons of rock and dirt on the road early Wednesday morning. Main Street in Aspen between Galena and Spring Street is closed from 7:30 AM to 9 PM today. The right turn lane onto 6th Street at the north end of the Grand Avenue Bridge will be closed this week, Monday through Friday.
