Tonight the Aspen City Council is expected to take their final vote on maintaining water rights to build dams on upper Maroon Creek and Castle Creek. On a nature hike along Maroon Creek in the Maroon Bells Snowmass Wilderness area over the summer, Brandon Jones explained why Wilderness Workshop would like to see the City of Aspen abandon its water right instead of developing a new dam that would impact the wilderness area. If you can’t attend the meeting in person, you can tune in live on GrassrootsTV.org.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness month. Garfield County Sheriff Lou Vallario says that Colorado law does not require physical contact as a minimum standard to make a mandatory arrest. Domestic violence means an act or threatened act of violence upon a person with whom the suspect has been involved in an intimate relationship. DV also includes any other crime used as a method of coercion, control, punishment, intimidation or revenge.

Sadly, a 24-year old woman in Glenwood Springs was murdered Friday, at the Pinon Pines apartment complex. Gustavo Olive-Tellez was identified as a primary suspect in what appears to be a case of extreme domestic violence. The suspect was apprehended over the weekend in Grand Junction. Turns out Olivo-Tellez was wanted on a previous domestic violence warrant and has now been charged with first degree murder. Garfield County is expected to release the name of the shooting victim once her familiy members have been notified.

Democratic U.S. Senator Michael Bennet and his Republican challenger Darryl Glenn will face off on Tuesday for Denver television station 9 News.
