Carbondale Community Oven

 

Time now for the KDNK Community Calendar for Friday, May 12, underwritten by the MountSoprisRotary Club, meeting every Thursday at noon at Mi Casita in Carbondale. Rotary: Service above self. Click on the headline to view listings, including a pizza bake at the Community Oven in Carbondale.

  • Basalt Regional Library hosts Teen Art Bar at 3:30 and Strings Attached, a jazz concert, from 5:30 to 7.

  • A paper shred and barbeque benefiting the Advocate Safehouse Project begins at 4 at the Riverside Professional Building, 2700 Gilstrap Court, in Glenwood Springs.

  • The opening reception for Body Celebration at the Art Base in Basalt begins at 5.

  • Dandelion Day kicks off with short-film showcase at Marble Distilling, sponsored by the American Renewable Energy Institute, from 5:30 to 7, followed by live music from Travis Bush.

  • The Zoo Keeper’s Wife screens at the Crystal Theatre at 5 followed by The Lost City of Z at 7:30.

  • The Carbondale Community Oven outside the 3rd Street Center will be baking pizza at 6. All are welcome to share and ingredient donations are encouraged. There will also be a community bread bake tomorrow at 1pm.

  • Glenwood Center for the Arts presents the 25th Annual Dancers Dancing Showcase at Glenwood Springs High School at 7. A benefit-dinner will be held at 6.

  • Aspen Blackbox Theater showcases Pop! A Spring Cabaret performed by local teens at 7

  • The Thunder River Theatre Company presents Consensual Improve in Carbondale at 8.

  • Boys of Summer perform at the New Ute Theater in Rifle at 9.

  • The Leonard Curry Trio plays at the Rivers Restaurant in Glenwood Springs from 9 to midnight.

  • And 40 oz to Freedom, a tribute to Sublime, perform at the Belly Up Aspen at 10pm.

Looking ahead…

  • The grandest Dandelion Day yet is tomorrow in Carbondale, beginning with the Parade of the Species at 10am, meeting just outside KDNK at 2nd and Main. The opening ceremony with African Drummers is at the gazebo in Sopris Park at 10:30. There will be food, craft vendors, educational presentations, and live music from 11am to 5pm. KDNK will provide a variety of social lubricants at the beer tent, including Roaring Fork Beer, Black Bridge Wine, and dandelion-infused vodka from Marble Distilling. All proceeds benefit KDNK.

  • On Sunday, there will be an interfaith vigil in Sayre Park in Glenwood Springs at 3pm to recognize that many people are unable to be with their families this Mother’s Day due to the politics of immigration.
