Community Calendar for October 8th

Here’s your community calendar for Saturday, October 8th, underwritten by the Mount Sopris Rotary Club, meeting every Thursday at noon at Mi Casita in Carbondale. Rotary, service above self.

  • From 8:30AM to 5PM, Garfield County, the City of Glenwood and the Roaring Fork Conservancy are teaming up to remove tamarisk, an invasive species that has invaded the Colorado River Corridor. Volunteers will be rewarded with a party at the end of the day.

  • This morning from 9AM to 1PM, A Spiritual Center presents the annual Holiday Art and Craft Fair in the Calaway Room at the Third Street Center, featuring a wide range of gift ideas.

  • GlenX Success Summit at the Jeannie Miller Theater in Glenwood Springs High School is from 11am to 6.

  • At noon, Basalt celebrates its 115th birthday party with a potluck in Arbaney Park, with historic items on view at the Arbaney Barn.

  • Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park continues their Mountain Fall Festival with hayrides, family-friendly games, a pumpkin patch and photo ops from noon to 5.

  • Aspen Country Day School hosts a boarding school fair from 1 to 4, with representatives of 60 schools around the country.

  • The Crystal Theatre in Carbondale has Florence Foster Jenkins at 5 and The Beatles: 8 Days a Week at 7:30.

  • Glenwood Vaudeville Revue has Dinner Theatre at 6.

  • The Riviera Supper Club in Glenwood features Brad Vierheller on the piano at 7.

  • Heather’s in Basalt features Aspen 440, David Harding, Lisa Sarver and Amy Hawes at 7.

  • The Thunder River Theatre presents Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde at 7:30.

  • Belly Up Aspen has South of France and DJ Folami with doors at 8:30.

Gavin became one of the youngest station managers in public radio on February 1, 2017. He is a writer and producer with a passion for community media. Prior to starting at KDNK as news director in 2016, Gavin worked for national radio programs Alternative Radio with David Barsamian and Nonprofit Radio with Tony Martignetti along with local stations KGNU Boulder, KYRS Spokane, KRBX Boise, KAOS Olympia, and Air America Radio affiliate KPTK Seattle. His nonprofit management experience includes Open Media Foundation, where he led a government transparency team, and Common Frequency, where his policy advocacy supported dozens of noncommercial radio startups. Boulder Weekly, Raw Story, Austin American-Statesman, Boise Weekly, and The Sopris Sun have published his reporting. His TV credits include directing teams at Colorado Channel, crewing for Democracy Now!, and hosting on Free Speech TV. He graduated from the Evergreen State College in 2008 with a BA in media production and community organizing.
