Community Calendar for October 28th

Here’s your community calendar for Friday, October 28th, underwritten by the Mount Sopris Rotary Club. Rotary is holding a raffle, with all proceeds going to dental care for local children in need. Prizes include a 3-day trip to Denver with hotel and Broncos tickets. For more information, contact Pat Pier at 987-3265.

  • Mark your calendar for December 2nd because KDNK’s annual Labor of Love auction and Holiday Bizarre Bazaar is coming to the Village Smithy on Main Street in downtown Carbondale for December’s First Friday. We need more items for the auction, which already includes passes from Aspen Ski Co, tickets for the Avalanche, a Les Paul guitar, artwork, massages and more. Drop by the studio or give us a call at 963-0139.

  • The New Castle Gardens Pumpkin Patch on Peach Valley Road is open from 10AM to 4:30 with the Pumpkin-ator, pumpkin bowling, pumpkin basketball and hillbilly golf.

  • The pumpkin patch at Osage Gardens, on River Frontage Road between New Castle and Silt, is open from 11AM to 6PM. Kids activities include a hay maze and hay mountain.

  • The Teen Art Bar is back at Basalt Library from 3:30 to 4:30.

  • Veterans Service Officers from Eagle, Garfield and Pitkin counties host an open house from 4:30 to 7 in the Glenwood Springs Library Community meeting room.

  • Under the new ownership of Jonathan Gorst and Travis Owen the Riviera Supper Club has been "reborn" as the Riviera Supper Club and Piano Bar. The Grand Opening of sorts takes place all weekend, kicking off at 4:30. Live Piano Music starts at 7.

  • Crack in the Wall Gallery on Harvey Gap Road in Silt marks Last Friday with an artist reception at 5 featuring 30 local artists. Photography, oil paintings, jewelry and pottery are on display.

  • Speckled Feather in New Castle teaches chalk painting basics at 6.

  • The 5th annual Boy Scout Haunted House fundraiser starts at 6 at West Glenwood Mall.

  • Tonight from 6 to 10, Growing Years School of Basalt and Mt. Sopris Montessori of Carbondale are teaming up for the 7th annual Rock N Roast Halloween Bash at the Orchard on Snowmass Drive. Principal Skinner and the Teacher’s Pets headline the party, also featuring BBQ and a silent auction. Tickets at 963-3506. Sorry kids, this event is 21 and up only.

  • At 7, Sopris Theatre Company at Colorado Mtn College presents the comedy ‘Boeing Boeing.’

  • At 7:30, the Hudson Reed Ensemble’s fall production, Uncle Vanya, Anton Chekhov's play of passion and the longing for love, kicks off it’s run at Aspen High School’s Black Box Theater.

  • At 7:30, Kan-Pai Sushi Bar in Glenwood hosts the band Guilty Pleasure.

  • Valle Musico plays Rivers Restaurant in Glenwood at 8:30.

  • And at Belly Up Aspen the Dean Ween Group and the Meat Puppets play at 9:30.

 
 

Gavin became one of the youngest station managers in public radio on February 1, 2017. He is a writer and producer with a passion for community media. Prior to starting at KDNK as news director in 2016, Gavin worked for national radio programs Alternative Radio with David Barsamian and Nonprofit Radio with Tony Martignetti along with local stations KGNU Boulder, KYRS Spokane, KRBX Boise, KAOS Olympia, and Air America Radio affiliate KPTK Seattle. His nonprofit management experience includes Open Media Foundation, where he led a government transparency team, and Common Frequency, where his policy advocacy supported dozens of noncommercial radio startups. Boulder Weekly, Raw Story, Austin American-Statesman, Boise Weekly, and The Sopris Sun have published his reporting. His TV credits include directing teams at Colorado Channel, crewing for Democracy Now!, and hosting on Free Speech TV. He graduated from the Evergreen State College in 2008 with a BA in media production and community organizing.
