Here’s your community calendar for Thursday, November 3rd, underwritten by the Mount Sopris Rotary Club. Rotary is holding a raffle, with all proceeds going to dental care for local children in need. Prizes include a 3-day trip to Denver with hotel and Broncos tickets. For more information, contact Pat Pier at 987-3265.

  • The Western Slope Veterans' Coalition offers complimentary coffee and donuts to veterans and their families from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Glenwood Springs Library.

  • Colorado photographer John Fielder speaks at CMC in Edwards with an original multimedia show at 5:30 called Celebrating 100 Years of Colorado's National Parks and Monuments.

  • At 5:30 the Basalt Library hosts a workshop on how to effectively manage your email account. No presidential candidates are expected to attend.

  • The Garfield County Energy Advisory Board meets at the County Administration buidling in Rifle at 6. Luke Teator, an economist with the Colorado Office of State Planning and Budgeting will present on economic and tax revenue trends in the oil and gas industry.

  • Basalt Middle School and the John McConnell Math and Science center are hosting an evening of hands-on forensics and science discovery from 6 to 8. All interested 4th through 8th graders in the Roaring Fork Valley are encouraged to join in on the fun that includes hands-on explorations of forensics science such as DNA analysis, ballistics, lie detection, finger printing, computer forensics, crime scene investigation, and more.   • Alpine Bank is partnering with Emmy-nominated filmmakers for a screening of “Almost Sunrise" tonight at 7:30 at the Crystal Theatre. The film follows two Iraq veterans, returning home from service, as they embark on a 2,700 mile walk across America as a way to confront their inner pain and depression. Donations will be accepted on behalf of Huts for Vets.

  • And Glenwood Vaudeville Revue presents Sweeney Todd with doors at 6:30 for dinner and drinks and showtime at 7:30.

  • Mark your calendar for December 2nd because KDNK’s annual Labor of Love auction and Holiday Bazaar is coming to the Village Smithy on Main Street in downtown Carbondale for December’s First Friday. The auction includes passes from Aspen Ski Co, tickets for Avalanche hockey, a Les Paul guitar, Hunter S Thompson artifacts, plus massages, haircuts, artwork and much more. Gavin became one of the youngest station managers in public radio on February 1, 2017. He is a writer and producer with a passion for community media. Prior to starting at KDNK as news director in 2016, Gavin worked for national radio programs Alternative Radio with David Barsamian and Nonprofit Radio with Tony Martignetti along with local stations KGNU Boulder, KYRS Spokane, KRBX Boise, KAOS Olympia, and Air America Radio affiliate KPTK Seattle. His nonprofit management experience includes Open Media Foundation, where he led a government transparency team, and Common Frequency, where his policy advocacy supported dozens of noncommercial radio startups. Boulder Weekly, Raw Story, Austin American-Statesman, Boise Weekly, and The Sopris Sun have published his reporting. His TV credits include directing teams at Colorado Channel, crewing for Democracy Now!, and hosting on Free Speech TV. He graduated from the Evergreen State College in 2008 with a BA in media production and community organizing.
