Underground radio station KXLS-FM in Oklahoma City exposed Lynn “Jake” Burton to free-form programing in the late 1960s; he took it from there when he signed on as a volunteer KDNK DJ in 1984. Jake likes to describe his on-air musical style as “World-class Americana” but so far, nobody has gotten the joke so he might stop saying that. Jake has worked as a reporter, photographer and editor for local newspapers since 1982, and has only been sued once for his efforts. His passions: free-form radio programming, and the role the press plays in holding elected-government boards and individuals accountable to the people who elected them. “Power to the people, right arm.”
