Celebrate Fat Friday in Carbondale! January 28, 2013
The Town of Carbondale invites the entire valley to a Mardi Gras celebration on First Friday, February 1, 2013. Festivities begin with a parade down Main Street starting at 4:30 p.m. The parade will be followed by fun family activities along Main Street and at the Gordon Cooper library. Restaurants and clubs are putting out the welcome mat with tempting specials and live music. Come for the parade, stay for the ice skating and public art.

Austin's South by Southwest Music Festival helps to launch the careers of hundreds of bands every year. Over the course of a week, there are parties that showcase bands from Britain to New Orleans to Boston. But Colorado bands are conspicuously absent from most official events. KDNK's Mathew Katz attended the festival, and spoke to some of the few Colorado groups that made it down to play.

The music and art comes from the nonprofit Feed Them With Music - an organization with the idea that artists can use their talents to combat malnutrition and global starvation.
