This class series is focused primarily on basic movements, principles, philosophy, and weapons technique: sword, short and long staff, and knife. No experience or equipment needed. Aikido is a non-violent martial art that emphasizes peaceful conflict resolution. Through body movement learned in Aikido, an attacker’s violent, aggressive energy can be avoided, re-directed, and neutralized. The practice of Aikido has many applications for physical as well as non-physical conflict. The principles of Aikido are relevant to all types of conflict that we may encounter in our daily lives. The element that separates Aikido from most martial arts is its intention to do no harm to one’s opponent. Aikido seeks to resolve conflict so that all parties walk away un-harmed and mutually satisfied with the outcome.

TLDR: Help make our greenhouse accessible to people with disabilities by building raised beds and pathways and installing a new irrigation system!
Our mission here at Mountain Valley Greenhouse is to provide meaningful employment to individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities. A crucial part of meeting that mission is having adequate accessibility in all of our growing spaces. Currently, one of our greenhouses has gravel pathways that bog down walkers and wheelchairs and raised beds that are not at an accessible height and do not meet our production needs. We have recently received funding to redesign and rebuild this space so that ALL of our employees can participate in all aspects of growing regardless of mobility supports that they may need! We are reaching out to the community to help us reach this longtime dream!!
During the next month, we will be continuing with the second phase of this project, which is constructing raised beds, pathways, and installing irrigation within this space. If you like to build things, work in a team, and feel a deep sense of accomplishment at the end of the day, this is for you! The space we will primarily be working in is inside of the greenhouse, which on sunny days can even get up to 80 degrees! Come enjoy this beautiful atmosphere with us while working towards greater employment inclusion for individuals with disabilities.
Please email me at hvanderlinden@mtnvalley.org, or call 970-230-9704 if you’d like to be a part of this!
Your help will make all the difference in this mission. Thanks so much for your consideration, and please spread the word to anyone in your life who you think might be interested!
