News: Carbondale Rodeo

The town's wild west rodeo makes for generations of fun

The Carbondale Wild West Rodeo is in full swing this season, attracting everyone from causal fans to rodeo fanatics. Four-year-old kids ride sheep for the Mutton Bustin' competition in the same arena as serious bull riders, barrel racers and more. You'll often see an entire family of three generations participating in events and cheering each other on. For a few individuals who are skilled enough at their sport to win events regularly, the prize money from the rodeo is enough for them to live off; but most participants agree that money isn't the reason they love Carbondale's Rodeo so much - it's all about being part of a great community event, showing your stuff and having a good time - rain or shine.

KDNK's Riley Skinner headed out to explore the rodeo. The rodeo is located one mile East of Carbondale on Catherine's Store and happens every Thursday at 7:30 p.m. through August 20th.
